Greater works than these: You are the miracle now

Gospel of John chapter 14, verse 12.

Introduction: Wild Permission

Now, let's get this out of the way . This isn't your grandmother's sermon. No offense to her. We love her banana bread and her rosary collection, but this one is not about guilt, hierarchy, or earning a place in some cosmic seating chart. This is about permission. It's about stepping out of the almost. And into the already.

It's about John 14:12, that wild little verse where Jesus with full breath and full knowing says, you will do greater things than I .

Who says that? Not a guru. Not a dictator. Only someone who has seen what Love can do when it's not scared anymore.

The call to build: you will do greater things

He didn't say, you'll be holier, you'll meditate better, you'll sin less. He said, you'll do greater things. That means create, heal, disrupt, repair, rebuild. If Jesus is the cornerstone, you are the scaffolding. If Jesus is the match, you are the fire line. He didn't come to make you smaller, he came to ignite you.

John 14:12. 1 4 1 2 isn't just a verse. It's a rhythm.

One: Source. The beginning, the divine spark.
Four: The elements: Earth, air, fire, and water. Those elements that make the body.
One: Return: the callback to origin, but with new wisdom.
Two: Union: duality reconciled, sacred polarity integrated.

1412 is a sequence of becoming.

Begin, embody, remember, unite.

You are not waiting on a second coming. You are becoming it.

Sacred Irreverence: the new miracles

You might not walk on water, but you will walk into rooms where no one else could speak truth, and you will say the thing that sets the whole place free.

You might not multiply loaves. But you will break bread with the forgotten, the queer, the doubting, and it will be enough.

You might not resurrect bodies, but you will resurrect trust, hope, vision, community. And honestly, that might be the bigger miracle .

Building a Cathedral of Courage

The church we're building. While it won't have stained glass. It might not have a roof, but it will have breath and breakthrough. It will live in poolside prayers and whispered rituals and voices that crack open the room. It will smell like rain and roses and smoke. It will sound like consent, clarity, and quiet yesses.

This is not a church of control. This is a cathedral of courage.

Jesus didn't promise comfort. He promised continuation.

You will do greater things than these.

Conclusion: Embracing the Divine Within

So let us do them. Let us walk into the almost places and speak with fire and softness. Let us build temples of truth with trembling hands. Let us leave behind the idea that we are not ready. Because the divine is not coming back to rescue us. It's coming back through us.

And if that feels like too much.
